Waldau moated castle

The Wasserburg Waldau is the ruin of a moated castle north of the church (Am Försterhof) in the Kassel district of Waldau in Hesse .

The castle emerged in the 15th century from an already existing bower , which was converted into a moated castle and was first mentioned in a document in 1484.

The actual purpose of the castle is unclear. Presumably it was a landgrave's castle, a somewhat splendid residential building surrounded by a moat , on the remains of the wall of which a hunting adjudicator's house with a dog house and a falconer's facility were built in 1728.

Only two round defensive towers with a piece of defensive wall remain from the former castle , which form the outer wall of a half-timbered house .
