The Niederried-Radelfingen hydropower plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Aare near Niederried near Kallnach , which was commissioned in 1963. The system is almost identical to the Aarberg hydropower plant about five kilometers below. The installed capacity is 15 MW and the average annual production 77 GWh. The water of the Aare is used by two Kaplan turbines , with a gradient of 10 m available. A maximum of 190 m³ / s of water can be processed.
At the site of the Niederried-Radelfingen hydropower plant, a weir system had been located since 1913, which dammed the Niederried reservoir and diverted the Aare water through a tunnel to the Kallnach power plant . In connection with the construction of the Niederried-Radelfingen hydropower plant, the weir system was renewed and the new power plant integrated into it. It uses the energy of the Aare water, which is not directed into the tunnel to Kallnach, but flows through the weir into the bed of the Aare.
The Niederried-Radelfingen hydropower plant is operated by BKW and is part of a system of five power plants that use the energy of the Aare water between Wohlensee and Lake Biel .
