The water sports club Fleckeby e. V. ( WSF for short ) is a sailing club in Fleckeby on the Große Breite der Schlei in Schleswig-Holstein .

The association is a member of the German Sailing Association and the Schleswig-Holstein Sailing Association . The WSF operates a port for its members and guests. In addition to sailing training, especially for young members, cruising sailing and the organization of regattas are among the club's goals.

history

The club was founded on July 7, 1963. Sailing and rowing were on the program in the early days, and the club house was built on the site at the Große Breite, which was initially leased. As early as 1966, a youth group was founded under the leadership of the then youth warden H. H. Redlefsen, which played a key role in the introduction of the optimist dinghy in Germany. In the summer of 1966, the WSF organized its first regatta with 20 self-built boats in this class, with participants from Schleswig and Friedrichstadt .

In the same year, 84 young Optis sailors took part in the national elimination race for an international regatta in Austria.

Harbor at the Great Width

In 1981 the Fleckeby water sports club hosted the International German Championship for Wind Gliders . In 1995 the Fleckeby water sports club was able to put the jetty, which still exists today, with 60 berths for members and guests, into operation after long preliminary planning. The 8,500 square meter club area on the south bank of the Große Breite is now owned by the WSF.

In 1998 the German determination of the best 16 m² dinghy cruisers with 22 participating boats took place in front of Fleckeby . Since 2005, the WSF has played a key role in the annual organization of the Optiliga on the Schlei. In 2007 the Germany Cup of the X-79 with 17 participating boats and their crews took place at the WSF.

In addition, the association has been organizing yardstick regattas on the Schlei for both regatta and family crews for many years. In suitable conditions, the club grounds are used as a starting point for ice sailing on the Große Breite in winter .
