Wastl am Wald is a mountain range in the Lower Austrian Limestone Alps that is named after a well-known mountain inn. It lies at the transition from the Türnitz Alps to the Ötscherland .

The name originated in the second half of the 19th century and goes back to the wood servant and later innkeeper Sebastian Weinberger , whom the locals called Wastl because of his first name .

The rustic restaurant was located on a gentle saddle (pass height 1006 m) on Puchenstubner Straße B 28 from Puchenstuben to Gösing on the Mariazellerbahn at almost 1000  m above sea level. A. , while the ridge rises to about 1200 m. The inn has been closed for several years.

The area is close to the Mariazell Railway and is therefore an ideal starting point for varied excursions and hiking trails in all directions: to the west steeply down into the canyons of Ötschergräben , the twisty track trail along or east to the rolling hills all around the Hennesteck . There are also themes for pathless exploration of geological structures such as the steep rock faces of the Hennmauer or the Mitterkeil , and the forest stock, rich in game, is a paradise for weekend hunters .

The neighboring mountains in the north and east of the "Wastl" have heights of 1200 to 1300  m above sea level. A.
