Watch is the eighth music album released by the British rock band Manfred Mann's Earth Band . It was recorded at The Workhouse studio in London and was released in 1978.

The album

Watch contains a mixture of cover versions and their own tracks, which is typical for the Earth Band . The cover versions of this album are u. a. to songs by John Simon and Robbie Robertson , Bob Dylan and the American guitarist Lane Tietgen . The album was preceded by the release of the single California in November 1977, a track by Sue Vickers, the wife of Mike Vickers, the former guitarist of the 1960s Manfred Mann pop group. The songs Mighty Quinn and Davy's on the Road Again , which were also released as singles, are live recordings, but they got a few overdubs in the studio . The released single versions also differ considerably from the album versions. Mighty Quinn was a single hit for the Manfred Mann pop group 10 years earlier in 1968 , which reached number one in the UK and German charts. From a commercial point of view, the album is the band's best-selling album, even if at the time of its release it was not very well placed in the charts of the important US (83rd) and UK (33rd) markets. In Germany, however, it was extremely successful at number 3 and remained in the charts for a total of 69 weeks. It was also received very positively in Scandinavia and was the record company's best-selling album of all time in Norway with more than 60,000 units (as of late 1978). The entire B-side of the album is still an integral part of the Earth Band's live concerts. In 2013, Watch the DVD was released , on which the entire album can be found in the form of promo videos from the time of the original release and also includes bonus songs from some other albums, live performances and interviews.

reception

The eclipsed magazine certifies the album in its book Rock - The Complete Works of the Greatest Rock Acts in Check: all albums, all songs (part 1) to be "unbeatable" and to consist "practically only of classics". Consequently, it awards the work the highest category "Kaufrausch" and it lands in first place in the overall view of all albums.
