Wayne Brasel

Wayne Brasel is an American jazz guitarist .

Life

Brasel grew up in California. He had guitar lessons from the age of ten and played in rock, pop and jazz groups in the region as a teenager. After studying classical guitar at California State University, Northridge , he worked with musicians such as Donna Summer , Debby Boone , Otis Stokes , Tata Vega , Rose Stone and Andraé Crouch .

He led his own quartet which included bassist John Patitucci , drummer Art Rodriguez and saxophonist Brandon Fields . As a sideman or with his band, he accompanied Mike Stern , Alex Acuña , Abe Laborial , Vinnie Colaiuta , Justo Almaria , Kenneth Nash , Sheila Jordan , Brandon Fields, Joe Sample , Wilton Fielder , Tom Brechtlein , Gary Willis , Peter Erskine , Rick, among others Margitza , Joe Pass , Hal Crook and Frank Gambale .

After moving to Europe, he first taught guitar at the American Institute of Music in Vienna and at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz , and later at the University of Stavanger .

In 2007 he appeared in a quartet at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival with bassist Per Mathisen , saxophonist Tor Yttredal and drummer Inge Braekhus . In 2008 he worked as a composer and performing music on the Tanzanian Sky project with choreographer Andreas Bjørneboe .
