After graduating from university, he opened a psychotherapy practice and published articles in specialist journals. Dyer lived in Maui, Hawaii. The sore point

After he was approached by a publishing agent, published in 1976 Dyer Your Erroneous Zones ( The sticking point ). It is a self-help book that addresses your own strengths and weaknesses. The book became a bestseller . With 30 to 35 million copies sold, it is one of the most successful books after printed copies.

Positions

Dyer believed that many neurotic problems arise from self-inhibition. He therefore advocated overcoming emotional problem areas through free choice and one's own strength. He clearly showed the cause and the need for fear and self-doubt and called on people to free their own actions from social, family and religious conventions . It is crucial that the success or failure of one's own actions is not linked to personal self-worth.

Dyer's philosophy included all religions indirectly, as a spiritual source and as a more or less modern variety of solipsism . “I am convinced that the truth remains a truth until it has been categorized and then it becomes a lie. I don't believe that Jesus taught the Christian faith, Jesus taught kindness, love, compassion and peace. What I'm telling people is, don't be Christians, imitate Jesus. Don't be Buddhists, do the same for Buddha. ”At the same time, Dyer's views showed a broad congruence with the philosophy of New Thought .

criticism

Critics accused Dyer of making a "school" of his insights and not living according to them coherently. Since the beginning of the 1990s he has dealt with spirituality, especially with Daoism (Taoism). There is a risk of being exaggerated as "spiritual master" by his listeners.
