Weberbauerocereus churinensis is a species of plant from the genus Weberbauerocereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Weberbauerocereus churinensis grows bushy with more or less upright, cylindrical shoots branching from the base and reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The shoots have a diameter of up to 5 centimeters. The 18 to 20 blunt ribs are weakly notched. The 40 to 60 spines are difficult to distinguish between central and radial spines. They are light orange-yellow, somewhat strong, often hair-like and up to 1 centimeter long. One or two thorns are longer and up to 3 centimeters long. The flowering area of ​​the shoots is covered with 2 to 4 centimeters long bristles.

The strongly fragrant, more or less radial symmetry flowers protrude horizontally from the shoot. They are up to 12 centimeters long. The strong flower tube is reddish and covered with dark hair . The bracts are white at their base and pink at the top. The spherical fruits are dirty green to reddish and reach a diameter of up to 4 centimeters. They are covered with dark hair.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Weberbauer ocereus churinensis is distributed in the Peruvian region of Lima in the valley of the Río Huaura near Churín at altitudes of 2400 to 3000 meters. It was first described in 1962 by Friedrich Ritter . A synonym is Haageocereus churinensis (F.Ritter) PVHeath .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
