Today's construction

The Wedekindhaus (also Wedekindsches Haus or Storrehaus ) was a half-timbered house in the Renaissance style on the south side of the so-called historical market square in Hildesheim .

The original was built in 1598 by the merchant Hans Storre, who came from the Hildesheim patrician family Storre. As a designation, however, it was largely not the name of the builder but that of his successor as owner that prevailed. The house was completely destroyed by the bombing raid on Hildesheim on March 22, 1945 . Only its facade was largely faithfully reconstructed from 1984 to 1986 in the course of the new building for the Sparkasse. This also applies to the west facing front of the Lüntzelhaus and the Rolandstift . The new headquarters of the Sparkasse Hildesheim Goslar Peine is hidden behind the facade of these three houses . Even before the bombing of March 22, 1945, it had business premises in the Wedekindhaus.

The facade facing the market square is structured by a risalit and two flanking lanterns . Its facade is made of oak and is richly decorated with carvings that symbolize virtues and vice .
