Weißenstein (rain)
The place Weißenstein lies in the rain in the Bavarian Forest . Formerly forming the municipality of Eggenried with other localities and hamlets, Weißenstein has been part of the city of Regen since the incorporation of Eggenried on July 1, 1964.
history
The Weißenstein castle ruins were built on the pile at a height of 758 meters above sea level . The first castle was built around 1100 by the Counts of Bogen. After the family died out, it went to the Bavarian dukes ( Wittelsbacher ) in 1242 . In 1308 the Lords of Degenberg took over the fortress, and in 1468 they rebelled against the Bavarian Duke, which led to the siege and destruction of Weissenstein Castle. In 1602 the castle fell back to Bavaria. During the Thirty Years' War it was damaged by the Swedes but rebuilt. In 1740 the southern part of the already dilapidated castle collapsed. In 1742 the existing buildings were taken over by the Pandours burned down.
There is a lively club life such as volunteer fire brigades , ice shooters , snuff club. In summer and winter, tourists seek relaxation in nature here.

The poet Siegfried von Vegesack (1888–1974) lived in the town for a long time and made him known with his books, such as “The eating house”.
