The White spring poppy ( Macleaya cordata . (Willd) R.Br. , Syn. : Bocconia cordata Willd. ) Is a plant in the genus spring poppy ( Macleaya ) within the family of Poppy Family (Papaveraceae).
description
The white poppy grows as a perennial herbaceous plant that can reach heights of up to 250 cm. It forms underground rhizomes . The sturdy stem is frosted blue-gray and contains brownish, poisonous milky sap . The alternate leaves are arranged in a petiole and a leaf blade. The petiole is 2 to 15 cm (rarely up to 20 cm) long. With a length and width of 10 to 30 cm, the blue-green leaf blade is round-heart-shaped, deeply cut, seven to nine lobes.
The flowering time is in the summer months (July to August). The large, feathery, paniculate inflorescences contain many flowers. The flower stalks are 4 to 10 mm long. The tiny flowers are hermaphroditic. There are only two dirty white to coral pink sepals that are 5 to 10 mm long. Petals are missing. There are eight to 30 stamens . The short style ends in a two-lobed scar. The smooth, 15 to 20 mm large, bilobed capsule fruit contains only a few dark brown seeds.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20, less often 10.
