The nature reserve Weidenbachtal with tributary streams to the Rursee banks located in the municipality Simmerath , between Kesternich , shrub and Rurberg , west of Rurtalsperre .

description

The valley system Weidenbach and Haselbach consists in the middle reaches of a predominantly wooded notch valley with fallow grassland meadows. The 0.5 to approx. Two meter wide streams meander naturally through remains of alder forest . On the mountain side between the streams with are oak forest bestockte slate rocky ridges. The Weidenbach middle run is one to three, sometimes 5 meters wide and looks for its bed through moss-covered coarse rubble and surrounding rocks, with many gravel banks, small cascades and ponds , continuously lined with old, multi-stemmed alders, narrow ash , alder or oak hornbeams - Alluvial forest remnants. In the valley are Chrysosplenium source corridors, butterbur , Mädesüß- and Rohrglangrasbestände . The trees are covered with lichen , the rocks with moss, lichen, heather and ferns .

Protection purpose

The habitats are to be protected for many according to the red list of endangered plants, fungi and animals in NRW . These protected biotope types can be found in this area: springs, wet and humid grassland, near-natural unspoilt stream sections, rocks and alluvial forests on the surface .
