Christmann winery

The Christmann winery is located in the Gimmeldingen district of the Rhineland-Palatinate town of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse ; it mainly produces Riesling wines on 17 hectares of vineyards and is a member of the Association of German Prädikats- und Qualitätweingüter e. V. (VDP). The winery has been run by Steffen Christmann since 1996 and has switched to organic and biodynamic cultivation since 2004 .

history

At the beginning of the 19th century , the "Deidesheimer Kreis", a political group that discussed the sentiments of young Germany , formed in the Reichsrat von Buhl winery in Deidesheim , which is not far from Gimmeldingen . This group of friends also included the cousins ​​Johann Martin and Prof. Dr. Louis Häusser, who, through the group, often in contact, developed a business idea: their own winery. In 1845 they bought a few acres of vineyards in the wine village of Gimmeldingen . In the decades that followed, the small business developed into a medium-sized farm. When the founder's granddaughter, Henriette Häuser, married Eduard Christmann in 1894, the company changed its name.

The company has been run in the seventh generation since 1996 by Steffen Christmann , who has been President of the Verband Deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitätsweiner e. V. is.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The vineyards cultivated by the winery are divided into the individual layers " Eselshaut " ( Mußbach ), "Biengarten", "Almond Garden" ( Gimmeldingen ), "Idig", "Ölberg" ( Königsbach an der Weinstrasse ), " Reiterpfad ", "Linsenbusch" ( Ruppertsberg ), " Paradise Garden ", "Langenmorgen", " Hohenmorgen " and " Mäushöhle " ( Deidesheim ).

The 17  hectare vineyard distributed as follows on the following varieties : 69% Riesling , 14% Pinot Noir , 8% Pinot , 7% Gris , and 2% other varieties such. B. Chardonnay , St. Laurent and Cabernet Sauvignon .
