The Wieninger winery is a winery in the Stammersdorf district of Vienna .

history

The farmer and winemaker Edmund Steinbatz (1915–1968) ran a wine tavern on Stammersdorfer Strasse after 1945 . He set up a small stage there, on which musicians and cabaret artists  - including the Spitzbuam - performed. His daughter, Barbara Steinbatz, who took over the business, married the winemaker Fritz Wieninger (* 1936), after which it was continued as the Wieninger winery. The Steinbatzweg in Stammersdorf has been named after Edmund Steinbatz since 2014 .

Barbara and Fritz Wieninger began bottling quality wines as early as the 1960s. They are therefore among the pioneers of the younger quality viticulture in Vienna. When their son Fritz Wieninger (born July 16, 1966) took over responsibility for the cellar in 1987, he continued to produce high quality wines . Just a few years after joining the company, he was named “ Falstaff Winemaker of the Year”. A series of national victories and other awards followed.

The newly designed winery was opened in Stammersdorf in 2013. In 2014 Wieninger took over the 20-hectare Hajszan-Neumann farm in Vienna.

The Wieninger winery is a member of the WienWein Group and the Austrian winegrowers' associations Tu felix Austria and Premium Estates of Austria . Today the Heuriger is run by Fritz Wieninger's brother Leo Wieninger.

Grape varieties

The vineyard area covers 45 hectares (as of 2013), including some of Vienna's most important locations on the Nussberg . In 2005, Wieninger took over a vineyard of historic dimensions with the Preussen vineyard of the Schottenstift . In addition, the Wieninger vineyard area includes a mixed set in the Riede Rosengartl , a Grüner Veltliner vineyard at the foot of the Nussberg and one of the most excellent locations in Vienna, the Riede Kaasgraben - a single, ancient Veltliner vineyard. In 2005, according to Gault-Millau, what was probably the best Grüner Veltliner that Wiener Boden ever produced, the Grüner Veltliner Nußberg , came from this vineyard . Wieninger has around 30 hectares of vineyards on the Bisamberg .

The vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic guidelines. The proportion of white wines is 69 percent, that of red wines 30 percent and that of sweet wines 1 percent (as of 2013). Among the red wines, Wieninger's Pinot Noir is remarkable; he is one of the most outstanding representatives of varieties throughout Austria.

In 2006 the four most important Viennese winemakers at the time, Fritz Wieninger, Rainer Christ ( Großjedlersdorf ), Richard Zahel and Michael Edlmoser (both Mauer ), founded the wineries association WienWein to promote Viennese wine quality and to promote the Viennese mixed rate . Fritz Wieninger has been President of WienWein since it was founded. In 2010, the group was expanded to include the two businesses Weingut Wien Cobenzl and Mayer am Pfarrplatz . Richard Zahel left the winegrowers' association in 2011. In 2014, Thomas Huber from the Fuhrgassl-Huber winery was added as a new member.
