Weisz auf Schwarz is a literary magazine from the Hanseatic city of Rostock published since 2007 by Steffen Dürre and changing partners through the Weisz auf Schwarz - Association for the Promotion of Literature . In addition to poetry, prose (short prose and excerpts) and essays, photography and black and white graphics play a role. Dramaturges Wolfram Lotz and Oliver Kluck have been part of the regular authorship since issue 8/9 . The magazine can only be purchased online from the publisher, but not from bookstores. It appears at irregular intervals as part of the series of literary events TXT.FEST ( inside = outside until 2011 ) organized by its support association , at which national authors and musicians primarily perform, most recently in May 2018.

history

When the magazine was first published in 2007, it was a private project of the three founding members Martin Stobbe, Steffen Dürre and Theresa Schmidtke. With only one exception (Steffen Kammler), the first issue was filled by them alone. The publication frequency was at the beginning every six months. Up to and including the third edition, most of the content remained with the publishers. It was not until the fourth issue that well-known names such as Mara Genschel and Bertram Reinecke appeared for the first time , who now appear frequently in the Rissen - literary magazine for Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania . This was followed by Johannes Witek and Peter Wawerzinek , among others . With the double issue 6/7, Oliver Klucks appeared on the principle of a generation , in which he philosophized about Jonathan Meese as the figurehead of the cultural generation , "which has freed itself from the ballast of contradiction". Wolfram Lotz's texts have appeared in the magazine since the following issue. Both Lotz, Genschel and Kluck are children of the Leipzig Institute of Literature . Eckard Sinzig published an excerpt from his first book "Idyllmalerei auf Monddistanz" (1956) in issue 8/9. Sinzig's texts also appeared in issues 10 and 11.

In 2009 Martin Stegner became a member of the editorial team. In 2010, with issue 10, the magazine's layout and logo were completely redesigned. Since 2016 Fritz Beise, from 2014 to 2015 editor-in-chief of the student magazine of the University of Rostock " heuler ", has been an active part of the WAS editorial team. In May 2018, the 14th and so far last issue of Weisz auf Schwarz appeared in an edition of 1000 copies.

Trademark

A special feature of the magazine are its often extravagant subtitles, which change depending on the issue, e.g. B. # 12 "Magazine for Fluorescent Immortals" . Typical of the layout are collages made from old black and white photos. The magazine has always been in black and white since it was founded and has a smaller format than DIN A4.
