Welaus is an Indonesian town in the south of the island of Timor , at an altitude of 144  m . It belongs to the Desa Nordlakekun ( Kobalima District , Malaka Administrative Region , East Nusa Tenggara Province ).

Welaus is one of the westernmost settlements of the Bunak , an ethnic group that mostly lives in the neighboring state of East Timor . Most of the Bunak in Malaka Governorate are descendants of refugees who left East Timorese Maucatar when it was given to the Portuguese by the Dutch in 1916 .
