Welcome to Sajjanpur ( Hindi वेल्कम टू सज्जनपुर Velkam too Sajjanapur ) is a 2008 Indian comedy film directed by Shyam Benegal .

action

Mahadev is a young educated man who lives in a small Indian village called Sajjanpur. There he writes letters to their relatives for the mostly illiterate villagers. His convincing, mostly exaggerated choice of words makes him very popular with the population. He himself wants to become an author and tells his story:

For example, the young Ramkumar turns to him to send his lover a love letter. The only catch is her father, who is very strict and doesn't let her out of his sight.

Furthermore, Mausi finally wants to get her daughter Vindhya under the hood and asks Mahadev for help.

Kamla also has him write her letters. She is his childhood friend and Mahadev has been in love with her ever since. But now Kamla is married and wants to send the letters to her husband Bansi, who works in Bombay . He rates Bansi as a ruthless person who doesn't care about his wife. He also writes the letters accordingly. However, he soon realizes that he has made a mistake and misjudged Bansi. Therefore he is now trying to straighten everything out and travels to Bombay.

He puts these fictional village stories, based on Mahadev's experience, together in a novel and tells the publisher the end of each story: Ramkumar and his beloved have not found happiness and have committed suicide together. Kamla and Bansi are happily united. As for Vindhya, she is now married to Mahadev.
