Kunal Kapoor ( Hindi कुणाल कपूर Kuṇāl Kapūr ; born October 18, 1977 in Bombay , Maharashtra ) is an Indian actor .

Private life

Kapoor was born in Bombay to a Punjab family who came from Amritsar . In February 2015 he married Naina Bachchan, who is a niece of Amitabh Bachchan . This was done in a private family ceremony in the Seychelles .

Career

Kapoor was trained for an acting career by Barry John and became a member of Motley , a theater company led by Naseeruddin Shah . He began his career as assistant director to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in the film Aks (2001) with Manoj Bajpai in the lead role. Kapoor then switched to acting.

He made his film debut as the main male antagonist Tabu in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2006), directed by painter MF Hussain . His next film was Rang De Basanti - The color saffron (2006), for the Kapoor a nomination at the Filmfare Awards in the category Best Supporting Actor was awarded. This film was critically and commercially successful and was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the 2007 BAFTA Awards .

He then came under contract at Yash Raj Films (YRF) studio. Kapoor played in films such as Laaga Chunari Mein Daag - The Way of a Woman (2007), Aaja Nachle - Come, dance with me (2007) and Bachna Ae Haseeno - Love on Detours (2008). He then took a two-year hiatus before starring in the film Lamhaa (2010) by Rahul Dholakia with Sanjay Dutt in the lead role. Although the film was a flop, Kapoor received praise for his role as a young Kashmiri politician. Also in 2010, Kapoor lent his voice to the Indian god Rama in Mahayoddha Rama , which is a cartoon by Raizada Rohit Jaising Vaid. In 2011 he played Don - The King is back with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, where his performance was also praised.

In 2012, Kapoor starred in the comedy Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana by Sameer Sharma , which was described by critics as one of the 10 best films of the year. The New York Times rated the film positively, calling Kapoor an Indian Matthew McConaughey . In 2014 he appeared in the comedy Kaun kitne paani mein .

He founded well-known brands like Thums Up , Indian Terrain, Ray-Ban , Mahindra Logan and, together with Gwyneth Paltrow , the charity Save the Children .

He has a pilot's license and is a rally driver. In 2014 he began training for Formula 3 . He also founded the crowdfunding platform Ketto , which collects money for social projects.

In 2009 he started writing weekly columns for HT City , which is the lifestyle magazine for the Hindustan Times . This ended in November 2009, but the editions are still available on the Desimartini social network.
