The Wellenbach is a third-order body of water in the Pfaffenhofen ad Ilm district in Bavaria, with a length of 20 km .

Surname

The water bears different names on its course. As a rule, it is referred to as Wellenbach from the Vohburg municipality . Further names, especially for the upper and middle sections, are: Moosgraben (especially in the area of the Feilenmoos ), Rother and Rotherngraben ( Ernsgaden ). Occasionally the body of water in the Feilenmoos is referred to as the wave stream.

course

The main line of the Wellenbach rises as Moosbach in the forest between Fahlenbach in the southwest and the district of Hög von Reichertshofen in Waldgewann Hög next to the Munich – Nuremberg railway line at a little below 405  m above sea level. NHN . The stream initially flows northwest, emerges from the forest and then separates the two parts of the settlement from Hög. Then he passes Dörfl and walks past the Högermühle. He then turns north and crosses the southern filing forest to the west. Beyond it pivots in front of the fire Lakes on Ostnordostlauf and adheres to the boundary between the large wooded area on the right and the training area in the filing Moss left. A little after he has completely passed this military area, he reaches about 367  m above sea level. NHN the first place from where it is called Wellenbach by some .

Here a branch branches off to the left, which after it has set itself on a north-northeast course and both have crossed the St 2335 from Geisenfeld to Manching, runs back again. Now he continues on a narrow strip of terrain between some lakes in the Feilenmoss, and then enters the northern part of the file forest. As soon as the Ottergraben has run to the northeast from the left, it continues in that direction. A little before changing to the corridor near Ernsgaden , the B 16 crosses it . After this he stands at about 359  m above sea level. NHN and is now generally called Wellenbach . It runs through the sports grounds between the Ernsgaden housing estate and its industrial area and crosses the Regensburg – Ingolstadt railway line . West of the Rockolding district of Vohburg an der Donau , it now has its first stronger loops.

After crossing the Irschinger south bypass PAF 17, the Irschinger Ach flows to him from the west right on the edge of a quarry pond , his largest tributary, which here enlarges its catchment area by more than half. In the direction of its confluence it now flows only half a kilometer further and then unites at about 355  m above sea level. NHN with the flood canal of the Ilm , which branches off to the left less than a kilometer further south, on the western edge of Vohburg itself to the Little Danube , which runs east-northeast through Vohburg and then in the right floodplain forest of the river, and then after another 8.1 km to flow into the Danube .

Tributaries and catchment areas

The Wellenbach takes in numerous small brooks from the Feilenmoos and the Feilenforst as well as from the area around Geisenfeld , which is rich in springs , for example the Höckenbach from the right opposite the training area, which rises near the B 300 in the Feilenforst. Together with its largest tributary Irschinger Ach, the Wellenbach drains almost 103 km² of the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm between the lower reaches of the southern Danube tributaries Paar and Ilm , which, together with the water of the left branch of the flood channel from the Ilm, often forms the Small Danube in Vohburg Floods .
