The World Federation of Eucharistic Works ( lat. : Mundialis Operum Eucharisticorum Ecclesiae , s. : World Federation of the Eucharistic Works of the Church , there. : Federación Mundial e Adoración Nocturna a Jesus Sacramentado y Otras Obras Eucarísticas ) is an international association of 39 organizations with about 2 million people. It is closely related to the works of nocturnal adoration and arose from the "Arch-Brotherhoods of Nocturnal Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar". The federation was established in 1962 and recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international Catholic association of the faithful in 2003.

history

In the 14th and 15th centuries , religious orders , brotherhoods and Catholic associations were founded that were exclusively dedicated to the worship of the Holy of Holies . These included the “Congregation of St. Corpus Christi ”(1328 in Assisi ) or the“ Franciscan Poor Clares of the Most Holy Sacrament ”in Rome . In Germany in the 15th century, priestly brotherhoods were established mainly at the deanery level to promote communal Corpus Christi celebrations , for example the “Archbrotherhips of St. Altar sacrament ”or also called“ Corpus Christi brotherhoods ”. By the end of the 19th century, the Roman Catholic Church had 43 religious orders and brotherhoods that were established for the purpose of worshiping the Sacrament of the Most Holy. In 1810 the “Societies of Night Adoration of Men” were founded in Rome and spread throughout Europe , North and South America . The first meeting of representatives of various works of night adoration was organized in Rome by this "Venerable Arch-Brotherhood of Nocturnal Adoration of the Most Holy Sacrament". The same privileges and benefits fell to the new federation as they were granted to the Venerable Arch-Brotherhood by Pope Pius X (1903-1914) in 1906. In 2000, 8 national associations initiated a worldwide opening and the amalgamation of several plants. On December 6, 2003, the World Federation received the Decree of Recognition from the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an association of believers under papal law.

The worship groups, to which believers of all ages belong, pursue the aim and purpose of placing the “Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament” in the middle of their lives. Beyond Eucharistic adoration, they strive to worship their own Creator and Savior . Its activity is essentially based on prayer , meditation and the worship of the Holy of Holies. Along with adoration and devotion there arises the duty to bear witness in spirit and truth with God for the family and society .

“All over the world, nocturnal worship groups now have over 6 million members ... The Spanish worship groups introduced night worship in neighboring Portugal and took over the patronage of its founding in some African countries, such as Equatorial Guinea. In this country, worship group members often walk for hours to the places of night worship. The next morning they return the same route again. This is an admirable example of true love for the Holy of Holies. "

Organization and expansion

The worship groups in the parishes and dioceses form the basis of the federation. The groups are organized at the local level (parish and deanery), at the diocesan and ultimately at the national level. The highest governing body is the General Assembly , which is convened every four years. In terms of time and content, they take place with the Eucharistic World Congresses . The delegates of the general assembly elect the management council, which consists of the president, an associate president, two advisors, a canon lawyer as adviser, the treasurer , the deputy treasurer and the church assistant . The world federation has 39 member associations from 36 countries, 12 from Africa , 2 from Asia , 8 from Europe, 9 from North America and 5 from South America. From Germany the support group of the work of night adoration has joined. The Federation Secretariat is based in Las Rozas de Madrid ( Spain ).
