The World Federation of Catholic Teachers ( English : World Union of Catholic Teachers (WUCT), French : Union Mondiale des Enseignauts Catholiques (UMEC) Official abbreviation: WUCT-UMEC) is one of the Holy See recognized Roman Catholic association of the faithful . It is a non-governmental organization and was founded in Rome in 1951 ; it has advisory status at UNESCO , UNICEF and ECOSOC . The union represents 26 member associations from 28 countries worldwide.

history

As early as 1908, the presidents of Catholic teachers' associations from Austria , the Netherlands , Germany and Switzerland met to discuss common questions of Christian upbringing and educational opportunities. This gave rise to the desire to found an international Catholic teachers' association, which was also realized in 1912 with the establishment of the "World Association of Catholic Educators". The work of the world association had to rest between 1914 and 1945 and was resumed in 1951 by 17 national Catholic teacher organizations and reactivated under the name "Word Union of Catholic Theachers". It was recognized by the Pontifical Council for the Laity as an international Catholic association of believers, received the status of a non-governmental organization (NGO) and represents Christian issues as an advisory member in the UN.
