Welyka Palad (Ukrainian Велика Паладь ; Russian Великая Паладь / Velikaja Palad , Slovak Veľká Palata or Veľká Palad , Hungarian Nagypalád ) is a village and municipality in western Ukraine ( Zakarpattia Oblast , southwest of the Wynohrynohradi district, about 28 kilometers west of the town of Wynohrynohrad) .
The town with about 1,800 inhabitants (over 90 percent Hungarian-speaking) is located in the Transcarpathian lowlands in an area extending into Hungary and Romania directly on the border to both countries. The area is surrounded by the Batar River in the north and the Tur River in the south . Together with the neighboring village of Fertescholmasch , it forms a district council.
history
The place was first mentioned in writing as a palad in 1332 . In 1910 the place in the Kingdom of Hungary in Sathmar County had 1,525 inhabitants, almost all of whom were Hungarians. After the end of the First World War , the place was initially part of the enlarged Romania, but as a result of border adjustments in 1921 it became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia (as part of Carpathian Ukraine ) and was ceded to the USSR after the end of the Second World War .
