The village was mentioned in writing in 1544 for the first time and belonged to the Second Polish division of the nobility Republic of Poland (in the province of Volhynia ), then came to the Russian Empire , where the government Volyn was. In the 18th century it became the center of Hasidism under Dow Bär , the " Maggid of Mesritsch" . In 1918/1921 it fell to Poland and came to the Volyn Voivodeship in the Powiat Równe , Gmina Międzyrzecz . After the beginning of the Second World War , the Soviet Union occupied the area and in January 1940 made the place the capital of the Meschyritschi Rajon of the same name . After Germany's invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941, the place came under German rule until 1944 (incorporated into the Reichskommissariat Ukraine ), but was annexed again by the Soviet Union after the war and added to the Ukrainian SSR . On January 21, 1959, Meschyritschi Raion was dissolved, annexed to Korets Raion and Meschyritschi remained a simple village, since 1991 it has been part of today's Ukraine.

In 1965 the place name was changed to Velyki Meschyritschi in order to better distinguish it from several villages of the same name.
