The Velykyj Kujalnyk ( Ukrainian Великий Куяльник ; Russian Большой Куяльник, Bolshoi Kuijalnik ) is a tributary of the Kujalnyk-Liman in Odessa Oblast in western Ukraine .
The Velykyj Kujalnyk rises southeast of Podilsk on the southeast flank of the Podolian plate . From there it flows in a south-southeast direction to the Black Sea . It passes the administrative center Ivanivka and flows into the northern end of the Kujalnyk Liman. The Liman extends over a length of 28 km to 5 km north of Odessa , where it is separated from the Black Sea by a spit .
The Velykyj Kujalnyk has a length of 150 km. It drains an area of 1860 km². The river is mainly fed by the snowmelt . It often dries up in summer. It occasionally freezes in winter.
