Wendelin Koester

Wendelin Köster SJ (born April 17, 1939 in Meppen ) is a Roman Catholic religious .

Life

After graduating from high school at Windthorst-Gymnasium Meppen, Köster joined the religious order of the Society of Jesus on April 8, 1959 . After his novitiate at the East Westphalian castle Eringerfeld , he studied philosophy at the Berchmanskolleg in Pullach near Munich . After two years at the Aloisius College in Bonn , he studied theology at the Sankt Georgen College in Frankfurt am Main from 1966 to 1970 . On July 26, 1969, he was ordained a priest by the Bishop of Copenhagen , Hans Ludvig Martensen SJ, in the Imperial Cathedral of St. Bartholomew . In 1970 he became assistant to the novice master in Münster and also youth minister. He made his profession on November 5, 1975 . In 1975 he became youth chaplain in Trier and took over the management of the youth center Mergener Hof / Marianische Jünglingskongregation (MJC) from 1617. From 1982 to 1995 he was the rain of the priestly college Sankt Georgen in Frankfurt am Main.

In 1995 he moved to the headquarters of the order in Rome and was assistant to General Peter Hans Kolvenbach SJ for 13 years and was responsible for the seven central European Jesuit provinces. He was also the delegate of the Superior General for the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe in Rome.

In April 2009 Köster was appointed spiritual director of the Episcopal Seminary in Limburg . In January 2010 he was elected Rector of the Sankt Georgen College with a term of office until 2014. He is also superior of the Jesuit community Sankt Georgen. Köster is a board member of the Philosophical-Theological University Sankt Georgen eV and a member of the Diocesan Synodal Council of the Diocese of Limburg . After his term of office in Sankt Georgen, Köster is now minister ( economist ) of the Jesuit community in the Ignatius House in Frankfurt / Main.
