Wendelsmühle , also Englertsmühle , formerly Neumühle , is a former mill as well as a residential area on the outskirts of the city of Grünsfeld in the Main-Tauber district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg .
geography
The Wendelsmühle is located on the outskirts of the core town of Grünsfeld in an floodplain of the Grünbach between Grünsfeldhausen and Grünsfeld. A mill canal branching off from the Grünbach flowing past was created in such a way that the greatest possible difference in height was obtained directly at the mill in order to be able to use the energy of the flowing water optimally for the mill .
history
Around 1750 Michael Hahner built the so-called Wendelsmühle in its baroque architectural style, embedded in a Grünbach meadow . The water structures of the mill and a regulated mill channel about 150 meters long testify to the high art of earlier generations in grinding grain. On the measuring table sheet No. 6324 "Grünsfeld" from 1882, the mill is still referred to as Neumühle . The current name Wendelsmühle comes from Dietrich Wendel, the second owner of the mill. Since the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, the mill has been owned by the Englert family and was then also called Englertsmühle . On the measuring table sheet from 1882, another mill was named at another location in Grünsfeld, which also bore the name Englertsmühle (today known as Grünsfelder Bio-Ölmühle ).
Grain has not been ground in the mill since around 1970. In 2010, a small hydropower plant for regenerative electricity generation was put into operation on the historic Mühlkanal .
Cultural monuments
The Wendelsmühle is a listed building. It is a free-standing plastered building with a mansard half-hipped roof, cornice strips and toothed frieze. There is also a rich jewelry portal, formerly with a skylight, which is marked with the year 1815. There is a wayside shrine on a path that leads from the living space over a Grünbach bridge.
traffic
The Wendelsmühle is located on Grünbachstrasse , which branches off the main road at the end of Grünsfeld in the direction of Grünsfeldhausen and, after crossing the Grünbach, leads back to Grünsfeld on the other side of the stream .
