Wendy Leigh (born September 13, 1950 in London ; died May 29, 2016 there ) was a British society journalist and author.

Life

Wendy Leigh's mother Marion Charles (Czarlinski) (1927–2015) arrived in Great Britain in 1939 on a Kindertransport . Only she and her mother survived the German persecution of Jews in their family. Marion Charles wrote a diary that Wendy got to read at the age of nine. It was published in Germany in 2012 under the title I was a lucky child . Wendy Leigh emphasized in her foreword that it was not the mother who suffered from persecution fears, but herself:

“When I inadvertently referred to my mother as a 'Holocaust survivor' a few years ago, she vehemently disagreed. 'No, Wendy, that doesn't apply to me,' she said. 'I wasn't a victim of the Holocaust. I escaped. I was lucky. I survived.' My mother actually survived those dark years. But the price was high and the wounds were deep. You couldn't see or look at my mother's wounds. For a while I suffered from nightmares about my mother's past, she didn't! "

Leigh was married to the journalist Stephen Karten for 19 years. She died five months after her mother's unacceptable death at the age of 65 from falling from the balcony of her London apartment.
