Wenceslaus Bernard Ambrozy
Wenzel Bernard Ambrozy (born July 2, 1723 in Kuttenberg , † April 26, 1806 ) was a Bohemian history painter .
Life
Václav Bernard Ambrosi studied at the Academy in Prague painting with his brother Joseph , a miniaturist , and then at the local canons Sierdus. During this time he became involved with the Jesuits and planned to join the order, but instead devoted himself to painting. So he collected paintings and acquired knowledge. He also worked as a restorer , for which he was praised in his time. Overall, he showed himself to be so talented that he was appointed court painter to Empress Maria Theresa . He was also involved as head of the Prague painters' guild and was also the last of them. Emperor Joseph II also held Ambrozy in high regard as an artist and often sought his advice.
Ambrozy died at the age of 82 and had a son, Anton Ambrozy. He also aspired to an artist career, but died at the age of 20.
Act
Ambrozy painted the fresco Six of the oldest Bohemian dukes and altarpieces for Bohemian churches. Next to this and next to three ceiling paintings, he painted other historical or biblical representations.
Constant von Wurzbach assigned Ambrozy to Venetianism and described Ambrozy's works as being painted with bright, clear colors. In the conversation lexicon for fine arts it is stated that he could paint well on both lime and oil. However, there is also suspicion that Ambrozy could have achieved more if he had developed his talent for painting. In this lexicon, too, his painting colors are referred to as light. In addition, the heads in Ambrozy's paintings are depicted very expressively and buildings can often be seen in the background.
