Village church

Werenzhain is a district of the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg .

history

Werenzhain was first mentioned in a document in 1234. The name of the village at that time was Witheroldeshagen , which was later shortened to Widerczhain . The place name is of German origin and named after a man named Widerhold . In Werenzhain there was a stone cross at the exit to Kirchhain until 1945. At this point the monks of Dobrilugk Monastery are said to have received their tithe.

Incorporation

Werenzhain was incorporated into Doberlug-Kirchhain on October 1, 2001.

Culture

War memorial

The Werenzhain village church and an inn at Hauptstraße 76 are listed as historical monuments. In the churchyard there is a war memorial for those who died in the First World War .

Exhibitions are held regularly in the Werenzhain Atelierhof .
