Frankena is a district of the town of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg with around 315 inhabitants.

Frankena is located on the L701 about 2 km northeast of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the direction of the town of Sonnewalde .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1229 as Vrankynow . In 1543 it was the largest village in the area with 35 hoppers and 8 cottages and belonged to the Saxon office from 1624 to the Congress of Vienna in 1815 , then to the Prussian rent office Dobrilugk . During the Thirty Years' War it was occupied by Swedish troops, but was spared from destruction after a large part of the population had moved to safety.

Incorporation

On December 31, 1999, Frankena was incorporated into Doberlug-Kirchhain.

Culture and sights

The church

The Protestant village church of St. Pantaleon dates from the middle of the 13th century and is a field stone building. The tower was rebuilt in 1488. The altarpiece is from the end of the 17th century.
