Werner Franke (politician)

Werner Franke (born November 15, 1919 in Ronneburg ; † May 20, 1990 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1951 to 1986 he was General Director of the VOB UNION in the GDR .

Life

Werner Franke, son of a fitter, attended elementary school until 1930 and middle school in Ronneburg until 1934 . He then completed a commercial apprenticeship, passed the sales assistant examination in 1937 and worked as a commercial clerk. From 1939 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the Luftwaffe and was stationed as a sergeant at various air bases in Mecklenburg . In May 1945 he was taken prisoner by the English in Schleswig-Holstein, from which he was released in June 1945.

After returning, Franke joined the Schwerin CDU on August 15, 1945 and was a full-time party secretary in the regional association from October 1945. From 1949 to 1951 he headed the publishing house "Der Demokratie", in the meantime Werner Franke moved up in September 1950 to the Mecklenburg state parliament, to which he also belonged in the second electoral period until 1952.

From 1951 to 1986, Werner Franke was director or general director of the Association of Organizational Companies of the CDU, which mainly included various Union publishers. From 1951 to 1989 he was a member of the main board, from 1958 to 1987 member of the secretariat of the main board and from December 1986 to 1989 chairman of the Central Revision Commission of the GDR CDU (successor to Rudolf Uebel). Franke was a city district councilor in Berlin-Pankow for six years and from 1967 a member of the Berlin city council assembly .

Franke died in Berlin at the age of 70.
