Werner Gauer

Werner Gauer (born February 13, 1937 in Prüm , Eifel ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Gauer received his doctorate from Heidelberg University in 1963 . Since October 1969 he has been an assistant at the University of Regensburg and, after his habilitation in 1972, full professor of classical archeology in Regensburg from 1974. From 1983 until his retirement in 2002 he was Professor of Classical Archeology at the University of Tübingen .

In addition to his contributions to Olympia, his work on Regensburg in Rome is particularly noteworthy.
