Christoph Reusser

Christoph Reusser (* 1957 ) is a Swiss classical archaeologist .

Life

Christoph Reusser studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History, and Prehistory and Early History at the University of Bern and the Free University of Berlin . In 1984 he obtained his degree in classical archeology in Bern with Hans Jucker . From 1984 to 1986 he was an assistant at the Antikenmuseum Basel for processing the Etruscan material in the museum. From 1986 to 1988 he stayed in Rome to prepare for his dissertation. He also obtained a diploma in Christian archeology from the Pontificio Istituto di Archeologia Cristiana . In 1989 he was awarded with the work “The Fide Temple on the Capitol in Rome and its furnishings. A contribution to the excavations at the Via del Mare and around the Capitol 1926-1943 "at Dietrich Willers in Bern doctorate . This was followed by stays at the University of Heidelberg , the Soprintedenza Archeologica della Toscana in Florence and the University of Pisa as part of a habilitation grant from the Swiss National Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research . Study visits took him to Paris, Berlin, Rome, London and Oxford. In 1994 Reusser became an assistant at the Institute for Classical Archeology at the University of Bern and completed his habilitation there in 1995 with the thesis “Vases for Etruria. Distribution and functions of Attic ceramics in Etruria in the 6th and 5th centuries BC ”.

In 1998 Reusser became C3 Professor for Classical Archeology at the University of Regensburg . Since February 2008 he has been teaching as the successor to Hans Peter Isler at the University of Zurich . Reusser is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute .

From 2002 to 2006 he led excavations with Martin Bentz in Marzabotto , since 2007 he has been director of excavations in Spina , since 2008 director of the Zurich excavation in Ietas on Monte Iato in Sicily.
