Hans Peter Isler

Hans Peter Isler (born October 2, 1941 in Zurich ) is a Swiss classical archaeologist .

Hans Peter Isler studied Classical Archeology, Greek Studies and Ancient History at the University of Zurich and Paris . His dissertation in 1966 with Hansjörg Bloesch at the University of Zurich dealt with the Greek river deity Acheloos . Between 1961 and 1974 he worked on the excavation carried out by the German Archaeological Institute in the Heraion of Samos . In 1976 he received his habilitation on The archaic north gate and its surroundings in the Heraion of Samos at the University of Zurich. From 1971 to 2008 he dug in Ietas on Monte Iato in Sicily and in 1997/98 in Eretria . Since 1978 he has taught first as an associate professor and since 1984 as a full professor at the University of Zurich. In 1992 Isler was named Iato for his book Monte Iato. Guida Archeologica awarded the Premio Gambrinus "Giuseppe Mazzotti" . He is a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and a real member of the Austrian Archaeological Institute and heads the Swiss department of the major project Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum . In 2012 he was elected honorary member of the philosophical-historical class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

Isler is married to the classical archaeologist Cornelia Isler-Kerényi (* 1942).
