In the 1996 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Dallas Stars in the first round as fifth. With the Canadian team he won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in 1997 .
In the first years as a professional he was used with the Michigan K-Wings in the International Hockey League . From the 1999/2000 season he also came to isolated missions with the Dallas Stars in the NHL. After he did not make the jump to the NHL sustainably, he played mostly with the Utah Grizzlies in the IHL. In the summer of 2001 it was given to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Cameron Mann .
A shoulder injury threw him out of the running during his time in Boston and so he only played twice for the Bruins. He also had some missions for the AHL farm team, the Providence Bruins . The next stop was the Toronto Maple Leafs , where he was regularly used in the NHL and only occasionally was sent to the AHL to the St. John's Maple Leafs . During the 2003/04 season he moved to the Pittsburgh Penguins . He bridged the NHL strike in Sweden, but then returned to the Penguins. Soon he was given to the Florida Panthers . His journey continued when he moved from Florida to the Anaheim Ducks . With the Ducks he won the Stanley Cup in the 2006/07 season .
In the 2007/08 season Jackman played for EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian ice hockey league and also took part with Team Canada in the Spengler Cup , which he also won. In the 2009/10 season he returned to Switzerland, where he had already strengthened SC Bern in the Champions Hockey League in the 2008/09 season . In the 2009/10 season he went on the ice for EHC Biel and achieved 24 scorer points in 54 games, but did not get a new contract in 2010. From October 2010 Jackman was under contract with the Utah Grizzlies from the ECHL . Two months later he was signed by HC Slovan Bratislava from the Slovak extra league. After he had previously terminated his contract in Bratislava, Jackman decided in July 2011 to work with Anyang Halla from the Asia League Ice Hockey , where he signed a contract for three years. There he was able to distinguish himself as the best defender in the league in terms of points in the 2012/13 season . This was followed by a detour for one season to Alba Volán Székesfehérvár in the Austrian EBEL . Jackman then returned to the Asia Hockey Ice Hockey League, but this time to the Nippon Paper Cranes . In the 2015/16 season, the defender moved to the British Elite Ice Hockey League to the Braehead Clan , with whom Jackman won the Gardener Conference, but was eliminated in the following playoffs.
