Werner Hess

Werner Hess (born October 13, 1914 in Frankfurt am Main ; † April 11, 2003 in Munich ) was a German Protestant pastor, film commissioner of his church and director of the Hessischer Rundfunk from 1962 to 1980 .

Werner Hess studied Protestant theology , German and theater studies. In 1939 he became city vicar in Frankfurt am Main. From 1939 to 1945 he was in military service and from 1945 to 1960 pastor of the Bethlehem parish in Frankfurt-Ginnheim . Hess was instrumental in building up Protestant film work in the early Federal Republic.

As a pastor of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau , he worked from 1949 to 1960 as a film commissioner for the Evangelical Church in Germany . In 1951 he was also appointed television representative. During this time, Hess wrote the screenplay for the film Der obedient Rebell , which appeared in 1952, together with Franz Oertel . As a supporting actor, he worked in the socially critical film Das Unheil in 1972 .

In 1956 he was elected chairman of the preparatory committee of the German Evangelical Church Congress in Frankfurt am Main.

Since 1948 he was a member of the broadcasting council of the Hessischer Rundfunk. In 1959 he became its chairman. From 1960 to 1962 he was television program director, from 1962 to 1981 director of the Hessischer Rundfunk.

Honors

On November 30, 1979 Werner Hess was awarded the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal .
