Werner Konstantin von Hoerschelmann (born May 29, 1938 in Nõmme , now part of Tallinn , Estonia ) is a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and non-fiction author .

Life

In 1939, the Baltic German family relocated to the Warthegau (now Poland) as a result of the German-Soviet border and friendship treaty . In 1945 they fled to Lower Saxony and moved to Baden-Württemberg in 1951. Hoerschelmann's father, Pastor Gotthard Hoerschelmann (1903–1976), did not return until 1955 from a Soviet captivity. They then moved to Ostholstein in 1956.

Hoerschelmann studied in Kiel , Hamburg and Göttingen Protestant theology and in 1976 in Erlangen with a thesis on Christian gurus to Dr. theol. PhD.

He is married to the church musician Sünje Hoerschelmann geb. Hansen and has three children.

Working life

After the vicariate and ordination in Kiel , he worked as an assistant to the education and ecumenical officer in the church office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel. He then worked as pastor of the German-speaking congregations in South India and lecturer at the United Theological College in Bangalore . Eventually he became head of the “Sub-Saharan Africa” department in the EKD's external church office in Frankfurt am Main .

As main pastor at the main church St. Petri in Hamburg from 1982 to 1998 and from 1992 at the same time provost of the district center of the church district Alt-Hamburg , he also had a teaching position in the department of Protestant theology at the University of Hamburg , was chairman of the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK) in Hamburg and 1994 election observer in South Africa.

He was chairman of the board of the Kindernothilfe e. V. and foundation based in Duisburg.

After he retired in 2003, he took back the family's Russian title of nobility (von Hoerschelmann) and has lived in Basedow near Lauenburg / Elbe ever since .

He has published several publications and lectured on the topics of Africa, Asia, development cooperation, religious dialogue and the Church in the big city.
