Werner Kock (born October 13, 1921 in Lübeck ; † April 30, 1997 ibid) was a local politician of the SPD and mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck .

Life

Werner Kock was initially in addition to his managerial position in the Lübeck mechanical engineering company Nordischer Maschinenbau Rud. Baader volunteered in local politics in the Hanseatic city . He was elected to Lübeck's citizenship for the SPD as early as 1948 , where he quickly became parliamentary group leader and deputy mayor . The office of city president, as the highest representative of the city according to the local constitution in Schleswig-Holstein, he held in the legislative periods 1956–1959, 1959–1962 and, after an interruption, again from 1966 to 1969.

From 1970 to 1976 he took over the office of mayor and head of administration of the city. During this term of office, the beginning of the redevelopment of Lübeck's old town, but also the further expansion of the Skandinavienkai and the realignment of today's University of Lübeck , of which he was an honorary member as former mayor, fell.

When he left the administration he became chairman of the board of the municipal cold store company.

Werner Kock did not only volunteer in local politics. He has been a member of the board of the Lübeck Possehl Foundation since 1954 and was its chairman from 1986 to 1993. In addition, he was a member of various supervisory boards, such as the Lübeck port company and in the housing industry.

Werner Kock received the Freiherr vom Stein Medal in 1958 . He was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Finnish Order of the White Rose (1970) and the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class (1971). The Werner-Kock Street close to the Lübeck Main Station is named after him. His portrait of Harald Duwe hangs in the Mayor Gallery of Luebeck city hall .
