Werner Kotte

Werner Kotte (born September 3, 1931 in Dresden ) is a former German rear admiral of the People's Navy .

biography

The son of a baker and later Mason graduated from 1948 to 1950 after the school an apprenticeship as a carpenter before he on August 4, 1950 as cadet of Seepolizeischule Parow in the Main Administration Sea Police of the GDR entered. After completing his training, between 1953 and 1954 he was initially in command of a coastal protection boat at the Peenemünde fleet base . After joining the SED in 1954 he became an officer for combat training in the staff of the People's Police Sea and was then from 1956 to 1958 an officer auditor at the Naval Officer School. This was followed by employment as an officer for operational work and as chief of staff at the base of the1st flotilla . From 1959 to 1961 he was again an officer auditor at the Naval Officer School. In 1962 he returned to the 1st Flotilla and was initially a navigation officer and shortly afterwards from 1962 to 1966 Deputy Chief of Staff and Head of the Combat Training Division.

Between 1966 and 1969 he was an officer auditor at the military academy of the NVA " Friedrich Engels " in Dresden and graduated with a degree in military science. Subsequently he was deputy chief of staff and head of the operational sub-department until 1971 and then deputy chief and chief of staff of the 1st flotilla until 1974. On December 1, 1974, he finally succeeded Hans Hofmann in the rank of captain at sea , commander of the 1st flotilla in Peenemünde on Usedom . On October 7, 1982, on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the GDR, he was appointed Rear Admiral in this function .

On December 1, 1984, after exactly ten years as a commanding officer, he left the 1st Flotilla and became Deputy Chief of Staff for Organization in the command of the People's Navy . He held this position until his dismissal at the end of the GDR on September 30, 1990.

Kotte lives in Karlshagen and is a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR).
