Werner Kraus (civil servant)

Werner Kraus (born February 4, 1818 in Flensburg , † August 18, 1900 in Kiel ) was a Schleswig-Holstein civil servant, lawyer and politician.

Life

Werner Kraus studied in Kiel , Berlin and Munich . After his exams in 1841, he worked in various local offices from 1841 to 1848 and was then employed in the Schleswig-Holstein law firm in Copenhagen . In 1852 he resigned from the civil service and became a lawyer in Kiel. In 1864 he was magistrate in Flensburg and 1865 as a Government department head of Holstein state government in Kiel. After the annexation of Schleswig-Holstein by Prussia , he was dismissed from this office in 1866. From 1869 until his retirement in 1895 he was an unpaid city councilor in Kiel. He was chairman of the school commission and the building commission. In 1894 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Kiel because of his services . The Krausstrasse in Kiel was named after him.

From 1867 to 1871 Werner Kraus was a member of the constituency of Schleswig-Holstein 2 ( Aabenraa , Flensburg ) in the Reichstag of the North German Confederation . As a result, he was also a member of the Customs Parliament . He initially belonged to the faction of the federal constitutional association and later moved to the faction of the Free Association .
