Werner Schmidt (politician)

Werner Schmidt (born December 2, 1926 in Quesitz ; † November 2012 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Saxon state parliament .

Life

Werner Schmidt attended elementary school in Markranstädt . He then did an apprenticeship as a saddler and passed the master craftsman examination in 1950. After the leather goods factory CE Pilz in Leipzig was expropriated in 1972, Schmidt was self- employed. This was followed by studying at the Weißenfels engineering school. In 1978 he was an engineer for leather processing technology. From 1972 Schmidt was director in his own former company and later specialist director in the combine "Aktuell" in Leipzig. From 1990 he worked in his wife's leather goods wholesaler in Leipzig. Werner Schmidt was also a partner in Terra Tec GmbH i. G. in Leipzig.

Schmidt was Protestant, married and had one child.

politics

Werner Schmidt was a member of the district council of the Leipzig-Land district from 1957 to 1964 . Between 1970 and 1989 he was a member of the Leipzig City Council. In addition, from 1990 he was chairman of the SME association of the CDU / CSU Saxony .

On March 15, 1991 Schmidt stepped in to replace the resigned MP Arndt Rauchalles in the Saxon state parliament. There he was a member of the Interior Committee and the Petitions Committee. In 1994 he retired from active politics. He was one of the founders of the association of former members of the Saxon State Parliament and was its first chairman from 1994 to 2003. After Ute Georgi took over the chairmanship, Schmidt was appointed honorary chairman of the association.

Honors

On May 22, 2004, the President of the State Parliament, Erich Iltgen , awarded him the Saxon Constitutional Medal as “the founder and, above all, the designer of the new political situation in Saxony” .
