Werner Schramm (theologian)

Werner Schramm (born August 18, 1933 in St. Ingbert ; † September 1, 2004 in Dudenhofen ) was a Protestant theologian and from 1988 to 1998 church president of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate (Protestant regional church) .

Life and career

Schramm was born the son of an engineer. After school, which he graduated from high school, he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Mainz and Heidelberg . In 1959 and 1962 he passed his church exams in Speyer and was then pastor in Morschheim and Kirchheimbolanden . In 1970 he was elected dean of the Kirchheimbolanden church district before he was appointed to the senior church council in the regional church office of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate in Speyer in 1976 . Until then he was also a member of the regional synod, where he chaired the theological committee. In the church administration, he headed the theological personnel department.

In May 1988, the regional synod of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate elected Schramm as church president and successor to Heinrich Kron , who was retiring. After a seven-year term of office, Schramm was confirmed in office by the regional synod in May 1995, but retired in 1998 when he reached the age limit. His successor was Eberhard Cherdron .

Schramm was married to Erika, b. Rettig, and had three daughters.

Honorary positions

From 1991 to 1994 Schramm was chairman of the Arnoldshainer Conference .
