Werner Thanecker

Werner Thanecker (born June 16, 1962 as Alfred Thanecker in Rainbach im Innkreis ; † August 6, 2014 in Linz ) was an Austrian theologian , Augustinian canon and Roman Catholic priest . From 2005 to 2011 he was the 73rd provost of the Reichersberg Abbey .

Life

After attending compulsory school, he first learned the trade of retail salesman . In 1984 he joined the Augustinian Canons' Monastery in Reichersberg, was given the religious name Werner and, after studying theology at the University of Salzburg, made his perpetual profession in 1988 . In 1990 he was ordained diaconal and in 1991 he was ordained priest .

Appointed rentmaster of the monastery by Provost Eberhard Vollnhofer in 1991, Thanecker established the monastery vinotheque and in 1997 the Austrian-Bavarian monastery market. As a parish provisional he was in charge of the Mörschwang parish. In 2004 he made a major contribution to the success of the cross-border Upper Austrian-Bavarian State Exhibition .

From 2005 to 2011 he was the provost of the Reichersberg Abbey. Due to the involvement of the monastery in regional tourism , he took over the chairmanship of the tourism association of the Innviertel holiday region. In 2011 Thanecker resigned from his post after a brain hemorrhage . From 2011 to 2013 he was in charge of the Steyregg parish as provisional parish.

Provost Werner Thanecker was a member of the Catholic student union K.AV Saxo-Bavaria in the Austrian Cartell Association . He is buried in the provost's vault of the Reichersberg collegiate church .
