Eberhard Vollnhofer (born October 20, 1934 in Stögersbach , parish Bromberg; † April 26, 2019 in Ried im Innkreis ) was the 72nd provost and 14th Lateran abbot of the Reichersberg monastery .

Life

Franz Vollnhofer was the son of the road worker Josef and a housewife Anna Vollnhofer; he grew up in the Bucklige Welt ( Lower Austria ), together with two siblings. After primary school in Bromberg, he entered the Hollabrunn boys' seminar of the Archdiocese of Vienna . Finally, in 1954, he graduated from the grammar school in Wiener Neustadt .

After a semester at what was then the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences , Franz Vollnhofer was clothed in the Augustinian Canons' Monastery of Reichersberg on March 13, 1955 and was given the religious name Eberhard. After the novitiate , theological studies followed at the home school of Klosterneuburg Abbey. In 1959, he put his Solemn Profession , and on June 30, 1960, he became a priest ordained . He first celebrated in his home parish, Bromberg.

Further semesters of study at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences followed - at the same time Vollnhofer was pastor of the Catholic University Youth and received the ribbon from several Catholic student associations - before he was appointed court master of the monastery in 1962. With the knowledge he had acquired, he taught the agricultural apprenticeship courses at the monastery in the 1960s. For several years he was a novice master.

In 1962 he became a chaplain in Lambrechte ; He also taught religion at various schools in the vicinity of the monastery. From 1970 to 1984 he was provisional parish priest in Antiesenhofen and for many years he was the dean's youth pastor and spiritual assistant of the Catholic women's movement of the dean's office in Altheim . From 1990 to 2015 he was a prison chaplain at Suben Prison .

On June 11, 1980 Eberhard Vollnhofer was elected 72nd provost of the Reichersberg monastery. The Diocese of Linz appointed him a clerical councilor in 1976 and a consistorial councilor in 1980. Provost Eberhard led the monastery to a new bloom, especially in terms of personnel; In its time, the convent reached the highest level in its 900-year history. During his time as provost, two Upper Austrian provincial exhibitions (1984 and 2004) took place in the monastery and were preceded by extensive renovation, renovation and revitalization measures.

Provost Eberhard was a popular company donor and a sought-after tour guide. At the age of 70 at the beginning of 2005, he resigned from his post as provost.

Eberhard Vollnhofer was buried on May 6, 2019 in the provost vault of the Reichersberg Collegiate Church.
