Werner Wigelbeyer
Werner Wigelbeyer (born February 1, 1937 in Mürzzuschlag ; † June 2, 2018 ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 1976 to 1991 he was Vice Mayor of the City of Wels and from 1973 to 1997 a member of the Upper Austrian Landtag .
Life
Werner Wigelbeyer was born the second of six children and, after primary school in Semmering and Obertraun, attended secondary school in Bad Goisern and humanistic grammar schools in Bischofshofen and Graz . After graduating from high school , he began studying philosophy as well as teaching German and history in Graz and Vienna, which he completed with a master's degree. During his teaching degree in Vienna, he was involved in the Catholic university youth .
He then taught first at the grammar school in Braunau am Inn and later at the federal high school and federal high school in Wels . In 1997 he retired as a professor of history and German at the Brucknergymnasium in Wels. In his retirement he worked as a student guide, among other things . He was the bass player in the Wels Bach Choir and the father of four children, including the musician Christoph Wigelbeyer (* 1973).
Wigelbeyer died on June 2, 2018 at the age of 81.

Werner Wigelbeyer was a member of the Austrian Workers and Salaried Employees' Association ( ÖAAB) from 1960 , of which he was chairman in Wels from 1971 to 1976. From 1968 to 1974 he was provincial chairman of the Young ÖVP Upper Austria and federal deputy chairman. From 1967 he was a member of the municipal council in Wels , where he served as city councilor from 1973 to 1991 and as deputy mayor from 1976 to 1991.
After the state election in Upper Austria in 1973 , he moved with the beginning of the XXI. Legislative period as a member of the Upper Austrian state parliament , where he was chairman of the committee for education, youth, culture and sport and a member of the committee for finance, the committee for general internal affairs and the committee for EC and integration issues. From 1995 to 1997 he was also the ÖVP club chairman's deputy. He belonged to the state parliament until the end of the XXIV legislative period , after the state elections in 1997 he left the state parliament.
