Werner von Bolanden (* in the 13th century; † November 28, 1324 ) was a noble canon in Speyer and Mainz .

Origin and family

Werner von Bolanden came from the Bolanden ministerial family . His father was Werner V. von Bolanden (more recent count Werner VI.), The brother of the Speyer bishop Friedrich von Bolanden († 1302).

Live and act

Werner chose the ecclesiastical status. Under his uncle he appeared in Speyer on June 4, 1300, for the first time in a document as cathedral chapter and provost of the chair brotherhood . In 1314, he donated his property in Mutterstadt to this prayer association, and from then on it was to be their largest benefactor property .

A document dated March 10, 1294 mentions Werner von Bolanden as cathedral capitular in Mainz, and in the same year he appears as provost of St. Viktor . The predecessor there Gebhard died on June 25, 1293; Archbishop Gerhard II von Eppstein had personally campaigned for Bolanden and appointed him his successor.

As the provost of St. Viktor's, Werner von Bolanden was automatically one of the archdeacons of the Archdiocese of Mainz . As such, on November 21, 1303, he allowed the incorporation of the parish of St. Amandus zu Ottersheim into the St. Paulus foundation in Worms . In the same year he approved the transfer of the Alsenz parish to the Otterberg monastery , and in 1323 that of the Offenheim parish as well . In 1322 he gave the St. Viktorstift church patronage in Weisenau and Laubenheim .

Every year in the octave of the patronage festival, he gave his fellow clergy at St. Viktor a load of " Rüdesheimer Frankenwein" , which Archbishop Matthias von Buchegg confirmed in 1322 for the period of time as long as Werner von Bolanden was alive.

Werner von Bolanden died on November 28, 1324, probably in Mainz.
