Wersen is a municipality Lotte in the region Tecklenburger Land , Steinfurt district in North Rhine-Westphalia . On December 31, 2016, Wersen had 3,427 inhabitants who lived on an area of 1,171 hectares .
Geographical location
The place is located in the center of the municipality of Lotte. In the southeast, Wersen borders directly on the independent city of Osnabrück and thus directly on Lower Saxony , in the west on Westerkappeln . To the north is the Lotter district of Halen , to the east Büren and to the south Alt-Lotte.
history
In the 1970s there was a temporary intention to join Wersen together with Büren in exchange with the village of Büscherheide in Lower Saxony. In contrast to the Büscherheide citizens' initiative, the Wersener and Bürener rejected this request.
On January 1, 1975, Wersen was incorporated into Lotte.
Buildings
church
The listed parish church in Wersen is a late Romanesque vaulted building. It dates from 1271, making it the oldest building in the Lotte community. The church received the west tower in 1886 and the south nave in 1906.
town hall
In the center of Wersen is the Lotte town hall. It replaces the old town hall in Alt-Lotte.
education
Wersen has three public schools: the Wersen primary school with around 200 students, the Lotte-Wersen community secondary school with around 420 students and the Wersen comprehensive school with around 700 students. In addition, the private Krüger schools are located in Wersen. Founded immediately after the end of the Second World War, the new building took place in 1967 and the company moved to Wersen. Some famous people today were active here as students or teachers. So were there, among others, Dieter Bohlen as a student, or the football coach Ernst Middendorp as teachers worked. Not to be forgotten is Heinz Rudolf Kunze , who also taught at schools as a teacher, including for German.
traffic
Wersen station is on the “Tecklenburger Nordbahn” railway line, which runs from Osnabrück via Wersen, Westerkappeln, Recke to Rheine. In the local traffic plan SPNV Westfalen-Lippe, the recommissioning of a modern regional train from Osnabrück to Recke every 30 minutes is planned due to its good economy.
