The West Garo Hills district is a district in the Indian state of Meghalaya . The administrative seat is the city of Tura .

geography

The West Garo Hills district is located in western Meghalaya on the border with Bangladesh . The area of ​​the district is 2855 square kilometers. Neighboring districts are North Garo Hills to the northeast, East Garo Hills to the east, South Garo Hills to the southeast, and South West Garo Hills to the west. In the west, northwest and north the district borders on the Indian state of Assam and in the south on India's neighboring state Bangladesh.

The district was created on August 7, 2012 when the then West Garo Hills district was divided. The CD blocks Betasing (all municipalities; 72,103 inhabitants) and Zikzak (all municipalities; 74,602 inhabitants), 11 municipalities of the CD block Dalu (with 2875 of the 54,095 inhabitants of the CD block), 25 municipalities of the CD block Gambegre (with 6777 of the 33,546 inhabitants of the CD block), the municipality of Angalgre of the CD block Rongram (with 153 of the 133,756 inhabitants of the CD block) and 41 municipalities of the CD block Selsella (with 15,985 of the 175,206 inhabitants of the CD block) separated from the former West Garo Hills district and formed the new South West Garo Hills district.
