Whangaparapara Harbor is a natural harbor on Great Barrier Island , east of the North Island of New Zealand . The island is still part of the Auckland Council urban area.

The Whangaparapara Harbor is located on the west coast of Great Barrier Iceland , about 85 kilometers northeast of downtown Auckland and approximately 24 km north of the Coromandel Peninsula . The natural harbor has a length of around 2.5 km and a maximum width of 1.07 km. The funnel-shaped body of water opens to the west and has a 940 m wide port entrance. With a few bays, the coastline of the natural harbor measures around 7.6 km.
The small settlement of Whangaparapara on the east bank of the port has a 40 m long jetty.

On the west bank of Whangaparapara Harbor , the remains of a sawmill for kauri wood and the remains of a whaling station can be viewed . In addition, the bays in the upper part of the natural harbor serve as starting points for hikes to the surrounding mountains, such as the 309 m high Whangaparapara , the 398 m high Te Ahumata and the 627 m high Mount Hobson , which is about 6 km north-northeast and the highest point represents the island.
