The White River ( English for "White River") is a river in the Thunder Bay District of the Canadian province of Ontario .

It has its origin in Negwazu Lake 20 km east of the city of the same name, White River . From there it flows in a westerly direction, passes the Pokei Lake White River Wetlands Provincial Park and the city of White River, and 50 km further downstream the settlement of the Pic Mobert First Nation . Here it flows through the in White Lake Provincial Park Lake nearby White Lake . After about 140 km the river reaches the Upper Lake . He covers the last kilometers within the Pukaskwa National Park .

Use of hydropower

The Umbata Falls hydropower plant ( ) is located about 30 km southeast of Marathon on the White River. The hydropower plant supplies two SAM Kaplan turbines at a drop height of 32.8 m, a power of 23  MW . The annual output is 109,102 MWh.

Regional Power and the Pic Mobert First Nation plan to build two more hydropower plants - Upper White - Gitchi Animki Bezhig (9 MW) and Lower White - Gitchi Animki Niizh (10 MW) - 50 km south of the town of White River.

From White Lake Provincial Park from the White River is 70 km downstream to the confluence with Lake Superior by canoe be driven all year. There are several rapids on the route.
